KAY

I have always loved animals. Until starting a pet-sitting business, my work, however, did not reflect this love. My employment history includes substitute teaching in the Chicago Public School system, selling real estate, and work as a flight attendant for a U.S.-based carrier.

While flying, I attended graduate school and received a doctorate in counseling psychology. The effect of managed health care on employment in the field of mental health prevented mefrom seeking work as a psychologist. I sought instead for a volunteer position that would be meaningful to me. That brought me to Tree House Animal Foundation.

I have volunteered happily for seven years at Tree House. Two of these years were spent in their clinic where I learned to give fluids and medications to cats. I am presently part of Tree House’s Socialization Program for abandoned and abused cats. This experience provides me with ongoing lessons in animal behavior.
A light bulb went on one day at Tree House when I realized I could combine my lifelong love of animals with work. This led to the start-up of Purr-Fect Pals and here I am today doing the kind of work I probably was always meant to do…the kind that brings much personal happiness.

SANDY

Hi, my name is Sandy, one of the owners of Purr-fect Pals. I’m originally from outside the Cleveland, Ohio area, where I grew up in a small farming community. We always had pets. Dogs, cats, even birds!

I have lived in Chicago for the past 20 years, and have worked as an International Flight Attendant. The time off from my job has afforded me the opportunity to obtain a bachelor’s degree in French. I also use the time to volunteer my time to The Tree House Animal Foundation, where I work with cats that need positive human contact, so that they can be adopted into loving homes.

As a person who travels, I recognize the important of having a responsible person to care for my cats while I’m away. It’s always reassuring to walk in the door, and to see that they have been fed and attended to.
